When utilizing photographs or video in order to evaluate a potential injury in the context of sexual or physical abuse/assault, ideally the image should:
- Be labeled with patient name, photographer name, location, date and time
- Utilize standard measurement tool in photograph
- Avoid digital filters or adjustments of any sort
- Save and back up files securely
When available, a digital image is preferable to a printed image for analysis by a child abuse expert. Be sure to encrypt these sensitive files, and when possible secure protective measures to limit access.
